TT electronics in Defence & Aerospace
Defence & Aerospace and TT electronics
Electronics for defence and aerospace applications represent the very peak of performance, endurance and dependability. These requirements have to be reconciled with the financial and time-to-market constraints being applied by defence and aerospace organisations worldwide.
Our COTS and MIL-spec products – from cables and interconnect, through innovative semiconductors and advanced passive devices, to power modules, microelectronics, sensors and optoelectronics – are supported by a wealth of technical expertise and application experience of hi-rel, extreme performance designs.
We have earned QML and QPL certification for JAN/JANTX level and hold multiple resistor approvals in the US and Europe to CECC, DSCC, US MIL Standards. Additionally TT electronics is recognised by the Society of British Aerospace Companies 21st century supply chain (SC21) program, and holds the AS9100 avionics QMS standard.
TT electronics is playing a role in many major current defence and aerospace programs and is involved closely with contractors at every level to help them meet the challenges of the industry.
Communications
Communications
Cable assemblies and interconnect are key components in the drive to meet the weight-reduction and miniaturisation goals of the increasingly networked battlefield. Our Databus, Ethernet and USB products employ ruggedized connector styles for extremely harsh environments and contacts designed to simplify the crimping and assembly processes.
Through the development of high reliability integrated passive networks, TT electronics is helping defence equipment companies reduce the weight, size and cost of their systems, whilst meeting the ever-increasing performance demands of programmes aimed at improved situational awareness, effectiveness and survivability.
As well as creating innovative new concepts, our engineering teams can evaluate customers' design proposals and assist with fast prototyping and design-for-test strategies.
Avionics – Civil & Defence
Avionics – Civil & Defence
As commercial airline production continues to grow, thanks to globalisation and the continued development of emerging markets, TT electronics maintains its focus on high performance solutions that enhance safety, reduce weight and improve efficiencies.
We supply microcircuits, power modules and custom resistor products for the latest aircraft for Airbus and Boeing for applications including flight computer, engine management, wing ice protection and aircraft braking.
For airframes, electronic systems, airborne weapons and munitions, our latest connector and cabling systems ensure dependable interconnection under extreme conditions.
Our engineering teams work closely with contractors and OEMs to ensure concept-to-manufacturing service, usually for extended production lifetimes.

Land Based Vehicles
Land Based Vehicles
TT electronics' databus connectors and systems are field-proven on current fighting vehicle programmes. With solutions like advanced lightweight connectors that embody integral back-shells to reduce cost and size, we are equipping vehicles to work with today's high-speed data buses and heavy power requirements, whilst conforming to current specifications including General Vehicle Architecture and NATO standards.
Engineering teams work closely with customers to design cabling harnesses and with optimal routeing for the specific platform – in most cases designing with the project's preferred software, to ensure end-to-end integrity of the final result. In addition we can design and build specialised hardware from basic military junction boxes to complex systems.
TT electronics is also a prime supplier to NATO for inter-vehicle power systems, for example providing heavy interconnections for slave start systems and trailer harnesses.
Space
Space
Demand for satellites is growing, driven by the growth of satellite based services, and TT electronics is developing imaginative electronic solutions, designing and creating a wealth of high-performance products for this sector.
We have considerable experience supplying highly engineered electronic components to customers in the space industry. Applications include power distribution systems and recently we have developed a hermetically-sealed ceramic microcircuit designed to protect sensitive satellite electronic systems from the damaging effects of Deep Dielectric Discharge.
Experience in passive and semiconductor technologies enables us to develop products that meet rigorous NASA and European Space Agency standards and our manufacturing facilities ensure supreme quality and reliability for this, the most demanding of environments.

Microcircuits – Multi Chip Module Technology
Microcircuits – Multi Chip Module Technology
Hybrid or MCM is a well established technology for the fabrication and assembly of high reliability electronics circuits. In a Hybrid or MCM a ceramic substrate replaces the PCB as the method of component interconnect. Interconnect can be created by depositing layers of ‘thick film’ material onto the base ceramic substrate or by a co-fired ceramic process. The thick film process can include layers of conductors, insulators and resistors. The HTCC substrate is generally limited to conductors and insulators, but provide a higher density of interconnect.
- High Temperature - Technology used in applications up to 210oC
- High Density – Reduced size and Weight
- High reliability - Hermetically sealed, designed for >20years life

D38999 Connectors
D38999 Connectors
The MIL-DTL-38999 Series III, QPL qualified, family of connectors has been developed to withstand the demanding environmental conditions often associated with military, avionic, aerospace and naval applications.
Key features of the connectors’ performance include, scoop proof connectors to eliminate the possibility of contact damage and high contact density with the availability of up to 128 size 22D contacts in one connector. Additional benefits include polarisation by the angular position of the Keyways and elongated fixing holes on the fixed connector to allow trouble-free replacement of older generation connectors, enabling the painless upgrading of equipment design.
The connectors operate at temperatures up to 175ºC down to -65ºC. The product is currently produced in Zinc Cobalt, Cadmium (in-house plating) and Marine Nickel Aluminium Bronze to CECC 75 201 002, allowing a standardisation of the product style on equipment across all three Armed Services.

Push-Pull Connectors
Push-Pull Connectors
The new Push-Pull Connectors combine lightness with extreme ruggedness and durability. Advantages over similar alternatives include easier orientation alignment, improved sealing when mated or un-mated, variable un-mating force and simplified assembly. Built-in Screen-Trap® terminations also allow faster assembly of screened cables.
The connectors achieve their enhanced sealing performance by implementing multiple o-rings, such as the combination of a dynamic o-ring and additional inter-contact o-rings in the panel-mounted connectors. All connector variants feature colour-coded key location to promote fast, accurate use in the field and offer current capability to 5A at 40°C.
Fixed, free and coupler-connector variants are available, thereby supporting numerous cable-to-chassis, cable-to-cable and cable-joining applications. A castellated locknut supplied with the fixed connector simplifies secure chassis attachment. Scoop-proof contacts in the blind-matable free connectors for cable-to-cable application prevent bending or shorting of pins during mating.
All variants feature gold-plated copper alloy contacts and a rugged built lightweight metal shell that can be specified in nickel, aluminium, bronze or brass. Shells are chemically blackened giving a durable, non-reflective low-visibility finish. After assembly, the connector and cable can be finished either by over-moulding or by fitting a heatshrink boot.
