Building Controls
TT electronics' extensive technical teams have a wealth of experience in building control and automation, working in partnership with OEMs world-wide.
The TT electronics portfolio includes products from resistors for metering, safety circuits and Residual Current Devices (RCDs), through infrared optoelectronic devices for sensing and switching, to magnetic devices for RCDs.
But it goes way beyond helping designers find the right products with the right specification. We work as close as possible with customers to improve device characterisation procedures: for example developing multiple pulse tests for resistors to reduce ageing and drift.
In integrated power stages as well as discrete resistors, fast customisation with TT electronics know-how is transforming custom products into highly competitive solutions for high-volume applications.

Motor and drive manufacturers are helping their customers meet challenges like the increasing cost of energy through developing increasingly precise and efficient control technologies. TT electronics is helping them deliver ever-improved performance in smaller, lighter packages.
One way we are achieving this is through advanced resistor technologies such as: thick film steel-mounted braking resistors, low inductance power resistors for compact motor drives, and current-sense resistors for control.
Precision control and management is provided by TT electronics' optoelectronic devices working in encoders and position sensing applications.

Resistors for Surge Protection
Resistors for Surge Protection
Surge energy ratings for the new wirewound WHS series are the industry’s highest from 2W to 7W, 1 to 330Ω.
TT electronics has introduced a comprehensive range of wirewound resistors offering the industry’s highest surge energy ratings from 2W to 7W sizes. Suitable for a wide range of pulse applications, the WHS series flameproof resistor is aimed, particularly, at designers of power supplies requiring a line input resistor for inrush limiting and protection.
Optimised surge performance derives from the special winding design of these resistors, in which a high-purity ceramic substrate is assembled with interference fit end-caps welded to the terminations. The resistive element is then wound on the substrate and welded to the caps. Its ability to withstand the high surge conditions associated with switch-on, discharge or external surge events results in improved reliability, savings in PCB space and reduced need for additional components.
The WHS2, rated at 2W, is the smallest resistor of its type on the market and provides surge energy ratings of 0.9 to 5.8J. Models are available rated 3, 5 and 7W, in resistance values up to 330Ω and taking energy ratings up to 60J. With a 10W model under development, the WHS family will offer better performance than competitors over a wider span of power and resistance. Moreover, designers have greater flexibility with the additional options of radial, goalpost, lancet and SMD Z-form leads.
All the new resistors benefit from UL94-V0 flameproof protection and operate over a wide -55o to +155°C temperature range.

Resistors for Smart Energy Meters
Resistors for Smart Energy Meters
The WP5S offers the combination of surge withstanding and flameproof failsafe fusing demanded by designers of smart energy meters
The WP5S is a flameproof wirewound resistor with customisable winding which can offer up to three times the surge energy capacity of standard wirewound resistors. TT electronics offers a full design, prototyping and pre-qualification test service for lightning surge protection up to 12kV. This helps cut time to qualification for meter designs.
The compact body has UL94-V0 flameproof coating and can be supplied in a variety of standard and custom leadform and packing options to suit both through-hole and SMD assembly.
Applications
- Smart energy meter line connection
- PSU line input resistor

Reflective Object Sensor
Reflective Object Sensor
The OPB733TR reflective object sensor features high resolution and a wide detection range, and is supplied in a miniature package that is ideal for a variety of industrial applications including assembly line automation, card readers, counters and sorters, proximity sensing, machine safety, and electrical, gas and water meters.
The sensor has a typical peak emission wavelength of 890nm, mounted alongside a NPN silicon phototransistor, which responds to light reflected by the object being sensed. The device features an excellent detection range from 0.4" (10mm) to 1.0" (25.4mm). In addition, the minimum phototransistor output current of 100µA eliminates the need for external amplification of the output signal, which simplifies the drive circuitry.
The phototransistor output on-state collector current is 0.1mA (100µm) at 1/2" [12.7mm] distance from the target and a 20mA forward current and VCE of 5V. Rise and fall time for the phototransistor signal is typically 15µS.
The OPB733 ideal to be utilized in electricity meters in the remote-disconnect actuator or relay (sensing home position) and in gas and water meters to detect valve shut-off home and end-of-travel position.
